Intrastat in SAP S/4HANA

Intrastat in SAP: Reorganizing Intrastat Processing with SAP S/4HANA

Since SAP S/4HANA's functionalities automatically cover the basic features of Intrastat processing, Intrastat declarations and their master data can be managed in one central location within the system.

What Is Intrastat?

More and more companies in the EU are involved in the intra-community movement of goods and are therefore obliged to submit Intrastat declarations. The introduction of the European single market resulted in the abolition of customs clearance and the need to provide statistical information on the movement of goods within the EU. However, in the course of globalization, accurate data entry for the movement of goods has become essential.
Since companies are legally required to declare the intra-community movements of goods, Intrastat declaration functions are crucial within the European Union.

What Changes Are Associated with S/4HANA?

In SAP S/4HANA, the SD-FT and MM-FT components previously known from SAP ERP ECC are no longer supported for Intrastat processing. Instead, the International Trade module provides an integrated solution for Intrastat processing in SAP S/4HANA. Here, Intrastat declarations can also be controlled via the Fiori Launchpad. Since maintenance support for SAP ERP will cease in 2027, it is advisable for companies to soon get to grips with S/4HANA's core component International Trade, which also comprises Intrastat processing.

How Are Intrastat Declarations Entered in SAP S/4HANA?

The Fiori Launchpad in SAP S/4HANA provides a number of apps for creating and processing Intrastat declarations. In SAPGUI, these are available in the International Trade component under Governance, Risk and Compliance.

Step-by-Step Guide to Entering Intrastat Declarations in SAP S/4HANA:

1. Create providers of information: The first step involves using the "Manage Providers of Information" app to create a provider of information. A provider of information is a representative of the organization responsible for submitting the Intrastat declaration to the competent authorities.

2. Automatic creation of Intrastat declarations: In the case of the two apps "Dispatches and Customer Returns" (SD) and "Receipts and Returns to Supplier" (MM), an application job runs in the background to automatically identify business transactions conducted for the provider of information during the declaration period.

3. Manual creation of Intrastat declarations: The "Manage Intrastat Declarations" app can also be used to manually create and edit Intrastat declarations and to process automatically created Intrastat declarations further. At item level, incorrect entries can be corrected and line items viewed. The declaration file can only be generated after the declaration has been released.
