Conversion of Accounting to SAP S/4HANA

Conversion Starting Points

Customers with non-SAP accounting systems migrate their legacy data using other tools. The SAP S/4HANA migration tools only work for existing SAP customers and systems. Depending on the applications used in the source system, different preparation steps are relevant.

A new implementation (Greenfield approach) is always an option and should be examined carefully.

If your SAP system is in good condition (unified chart of accounts, small amount of customer-specific code, highly integrated processes, etc.), the trend is to convert the system (Brownfield approach).

SAP Central Finance is a third option for heterogeneous system landscapes.

Overview of Conversion Starting Points

You can migrate either from classic G/L to SAP S/4HANA or first migrate from classic G/L to new G/L and from there to SAP S/4HANA.

Migration from Classic G/L and New G/L

System Prerequisites for Migration

  • Unicode system
  • SAP NetWeaver 7.52
  • SAP ERP with EhP 0 or higher or SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA or S/4HANA Finance solution

If you use an EhP level lower than 8, it is not necessary to upgrade to EhP 8 in a separate project beforehand. A one-step conversion is possible.

Before starting a migration project, take note of an important SAP statement:

Only one fiscal year can be open in asset accounting during migration and the last year cannot be reopened after migration (SAP Note 2304418).

In one of the next newsletters, we will describe all topics that must be handled in separate projects before or after migration.
