What is ISO 20022?
ISO 20022 revolutionizes payment transactions through a uniform structure for the exchange of financial data. This international standard promotes efficient communication between banks and companies, supports the automation of transactions, and facilitates cross-border payments. By meeting regulatory requirements and improving transparency and efficiency, ISO 20022 is a significant step towards modern and secure payment transactions.
Why is the changeover so important?
The ISO 20022 standard will be introduced worldwide by November 2025 for cross-border payments. This new standard unifies financial messages worldwide, increases the speed and security of transactions, and thus improves cross-border payment transactions.
For companies, the changeover means carrying out software updates, adapting interfaces, and updating customizing (and, if necessary, master data) to meet the new requirements.
Careful planning and timely implementation of these changes are crucial to ensure the smooth running of payment transactions and to avoid restrictions.

The timeline of ISO 20022
What advantages does the changeover offer?
The switch to ISO 20022 offers numerous advantages:
- complete and detailed information on bookings, account statements, and fee statements in electronic format
- improved post-processing of payment transactions through the detailed view of payment orders
- faster and more efficient processing as well as reduced risks
What challenges were there during implementation?
As part of the project, several challenges were overcome jointly in close cooperation between tts departments and IT, the credit institutions, and XEPTUM consultants:
- Implementation of payment medium formats and format trees according to ISO20022
- Clarifications on missing or incomplete SAP notes regarding foreign payment transactions and replacement of DTAZV
- Mapping of the previous GVC (MT940) to the new CAMT.053 format for electronic account statements
- careful preparation to create the prerequisites for customizing and the smooth transition to the new formats
What was the key to the project’s success?
A central success factor of the project was the close and trusting cooperation and coordination between the involved departments, the banks, and the experts of the XEPTUM Group during the technical implementation as well as in all test phases. This intensive cooperation, coupled with the professional implementation expertise, made it possible to efficiently master all occurring challenges together.
What is tts GmbH’s conclusion after the project was completed?
The people responsible at tts are very satisfied with the course and results of the project. “Particularly noteworthy is the trusting cooperation at eye level with the experts of the XEPTUM Group, our long-standing partner. It has once again been shown that with XEPTUM we have an extremely experienced and competent team of consultants at our side, on whom we can fully rely in every project phase. Almost a unique selling point in the SAP consulting landscape is the business process know-how of the XEPTUM consultants as well as the ability and willingness to get involved at any time in the special challenges and questions of our company and to find conceptual solutions together with us,” emphasizes Bianca Beckenkamp, Head of Finance & Controlling. “The professionalism and commitment of the XEPTUM team have once again made a significant contribution to the success of this project and exceeded our expectations.”
