SAP upgrade from 4.6C to ECC 6.0 with simultaneous conversion to Unicode

 

The goal of the project was to bring the SAP system to the latest technical state of the art. This is the prerequisite for being able to introduce new functionality and SOA-based applications as needed over the next few years. In particular due to the large number of subsystems and interfaces necessary, it was essential to create a platform capable of supporting future technical unification.

 

Another goal was to prepare uniform documentation and development guidelines in the context of the project for all modifications, additional development, and interfaces. Using these guidelines, maintenance and service costs will be significantly reduced in the future. This gives the internal IT department some free space in order to support the business processes even better.

 

A particular challenge for the project was the simultaneous conversion to Unicode, especially because a number of custom applications and user exits needed to be adapted. However, the combined procedure made it possible to significantly reduce the project duration, testing costs, and thus overall project costs.
